Dubble Bubble Gum was made by accident: Walter Deimer, an accountant at Fleer Chewing Gum Company in Piladelphia, began experimenting with a failed bubblegum recipe in 1928. His version ended up being less sticky than the original failed recipe and was coloured pink, as that was the only colour of food dye available to the factory. The success of the gum was immediate, and was made even more popular when each piece began to include a comic called "The Fleer Funnies". The bubblegum's success reached over 60 countries and was even distributed to the military in WWII! Now owned by Tootsie, the recipe remains classic and unchanged, although many different flavour and colour variations of Dubble Bubble have been made.
